Pets in San Francisco

Did you know that there are more pets than children in San Francisco? * Well, I did not, until I read recently. There were 115.000 children versus almost 120.000 to 150.000 dogs in 2016.

But, the main reason is there are not many children around. Here, the ratio of houses with children is 18% which is way below the national average, 29.4%. It is even less than 60% of New York's ratio (30.5%).

Anyway, so this city should be a heaven for dogs, right? Dog parks, veterinary clinics, doggy daycare centers, dog walkers and all kinds of yummy food. Himmm, maybe I should have been a dog of a loving couple here.

Let's check it out. It seems that there are approximately 32 dog parks here. San Francisco is ranked as the 6th city by the number of parks for every 100,000 residents. 6.7 dog parks per 100,000 residents, not much?

*: Based on the American Community Survey, there were approximately 115,000 children under 18 in the city in 2016. However, there were about 120,000 to 150,000 dogs according to the San Francisco Animal Care & Control.
